Project Summary

Work on the Yosemite Street Waterline Replacement has begun and is expected to be completed by November 17th, 2023. The work is divided into two (2) segments; the north segment (County Line Road to Easter Road) and the south segment (Brook Hill Drive to Park Meadows Drive) and as such takes place within the City of Centennial, City of Lone Tree, Douglas County, and SEMSWA jurisdictions (please reference exhibit below).

A significant portion of the work takes place in residential streets and right-of-way. The work generally consists of constructing, installing, connecting, and testing approximately 14,500 lineal feet of 20-inch waterline (open cut and pipe bursting), 3,500 lineal feet of open cut 12-inch waterline, lateral connections, isolation valves, fire hydrants, blow-off assemblies, air release valves, and pressure regulating valves.

The typical events occurring during waterline replacement construction looks like:

  • Set-up traffic control for the safety of workers, drivers, and pedestrians
  • Pipe bursting in some area (this may include vibrations from associated activities)
  • Dig a trench for a section of waterline to be replaced
  • Install the new waterline
  • Backfill the trench and compact the soil
  • Test the new waterline – we test to make sure it does not leak and that it is clean
  • Fully connect the new waterline to the existing system
  • Transfer water services from homes/businesses from the bypass/old waterline to the new waterline
  • Open the street to traffic before moving on to the next section of pipe replacement
  • Restore disturbed areas to similar conditions as before construction

NEIGHBORHOOD IMPACTS DURING CONSTRUCTION

  • Noise
    • Contractors communicating, operating equipment and vehicles, backup beepers, etc. all generate more noise than typical. The back-up beepers are usually the most noticeable noise – these are required for workers and residents safety
  • Unplanned Service Outages (includes water, gas, electric, internet, and phone)
    • The contractor takes great care not to damage existing utilities, but sometimes utilities owners do not locate their existing utility in the dig area effectively (including Southgate).  Hitting an existing utility with the excavator will typically result in a service outage.  Note that these outages may not be reported to residents directly.  Call Southgate’s office for updates on unplanned service outages
  • Road and Sidewalk Closures
    • Lane closures will be required daily with approved traffic plans by City of Centennial and the City of Lone Tree
    • Notifications regarding “No-Parking” zones will be posted prior to construction on your street
    • Access to driveways may be temporarily impacted while the contractor installs pipe in front of the driveway
    • Please mind the “No-Parking” zones – ignoring no parking zones could result in towed vehicles
    • For your safety, avoid the active construction areas and do not walk through construction zones
  • Increased Traffic
    • From the contractor executing work, inspectors making site visits, and detoured drivers to avoid construction zones
  • Construction Materials Stored in the Streets
    • The contractor will have materials temporarily stored in the streets, such as dirt piles and pipe, in anticipation of using the materials for construction
    • Messiness
      • The streets will get messy with construction – the contractor will keep the streets and sidewalks as tidy as possible as they move through the project area
      • At the end of the project, the contractor will do one big final cleaning of all the streets and sidewalks
  • Paving
    • At the end of the project, the contractor will re-pave the street in accordance with City of Centennial and the City of Lone Tree standards
